Toe nail fungus?

Hi. So my younger brother had an ingrown toe nail about 3 years ago. We took him to the doctors and they removed the whole nail. Long story short, it never grew back nicely. It doesnt look like a regular nail, it grew back thin, thick and long. My mom has a hard time trying to cut it because its thick. I was wondering if there is any home remedy or any medicine we can get ? And does it look like its a fungus or something else? i dont really know what to tell my mom about it..

Oh my word!!! I think you should take him to the doctor again! That looks like it could ingrow at some point again.
Yes it could be an infection if it’s thick. Symptoms would include discoulouration, thickness, ridges on the nail. It’s infectious, so he wouldn’t want it speading to other toes. A doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics if the infection is on more than 3 nails. There are over the counter remedies such as nail paint that helps.
You need to find out if it is infected before you do anything though!

Take him back to dr that removed his toenail in the first place and receive some recommendations. That is a nasty looking toenail. It almost looks deformed. I am pretty sure that it was not supposed to grow back that way. Let the dr know you are very dissatisfied with his or her work and to please fix it. Good luck!
